Businesses in Southbank

Usually, a business is either new and exciting or established and experienced.

Rarely can it claim to be both, but we’ve found an exception to the rule in Roop Rani, the beauty salon on Southgate’s podium level.

The original Roop Rani parlour, in Collins St, opened 13 years ago and has been owned by Rohini Ram for 10 years. Last September Rohini decided to expand the empire, opening a new salon on the podium level of Southgate.

“We were offered this space by Dexus, to provide our unique service,” Ms Ram explained.

“It’s a totally different clientele here compared to our Collins St store. We still get plenty of corporate workers, but the number of tourists and visitors that come in is great.”

“We also get great community support here in Southbank, especially from the hotels in the area, but also word of mouth from our current client base. I like to think that’s because the service is so good!” Ms Ram explained.

The Southgate Roop Rani is managed by Prasheeta Kuvei. Ms Kuvei said she loved the vibe that existed here in Southbank, which made coming to work a real joy.

“I love the atmosphere down here. Not just when events are on, but during holiday times, on New Years Eve and even just a normal Saturday night. I’ve brought my kids down here for entertainment and they love it!” Ms Kuvei said.

Ms Kuvei said the Southgate Roop Rani had found a great balance between the high-end beauty treatments it’s always offered and everyday treatments.

“We have got the facials and the pampering treatments, but we also do waxing, threading and haircuts – the day-to-day stuff,” Ms Kuvei said.

“We also offer great package deals when clients want to bundle all their treatments together.”

Ms Kuvei also emphasised the focus on organic products Roop Rani has.

“We use Keune, which has a lot of the normal chemicals removed and is great for sensitive skin, and all our customers love using it,” she said. “We even use it ourselves!” Ms Ram added.
