Pet’s corner

Millie is clearly at home on the catwalk, but it’s lucky she’s not self-conscious.

At 15, not only is she older than many human models, but also when Southbank Local News took her photo she was three days away from her groom and haircut.

Her owner Frances said she was looking a bit scruffy but very much doubted a photo shoot would bother her.

The Maltese-shitzu is very comfortable in her own skin and, after living in almost all environments, enjoys spending her time in Southbank and the chilled lifestyle that comes with apartment living.

“We’ve lived in the bush, the country, the ‘burbs and now right in the city. At this age Millie sleeps a lot, plus I take her out almost every time I go anywhere, so she’s very happy here,” Frances said.

“She’s absolutely no trouble.”

Frances mentioned that Millie could be overly lazy. She said Millie had struggled out of bed on the morning we had met her.

“Usually it’s the opposite to me. If I’m sleeping she’ll want to get up, but when I’m up and going, she’s tired!” Frances said.

Millie is clearly well looked after and is professionally-groomed three or four times a year. Frances says this is because Millie won’t sit still long enough when she tries to groom her.

Millie also has a noticeable overbite. Frances said her kids often joked that she needed braces. Maybe that’ll help with the modelling career.
