With temperatures dropping as quick as the prices of summer swim suits, it’s a solid idea to start investing in those key winter pieces that will keep you from turning blue as the colder weather creeps on in.

The biggest winter trend that was previewed this time last year was the return of the knit.

General Pants offers an extensive range of men’s and women’s knits in all kinds of varied colors and styles.

A little tip: you’ll often find your most desired knit in the section of the opposite sex!

To update the look, pair soft-colored knits with a cut-off leather biker vest for an edgy take on the pastel trend or throw on a denim vest with a vibrant neon knit to carry on with the surf influence from summer.

Oddly enough, raincoats are making somewhat of a comeback this season, with assorted styles from metallics to transparent 60s mod styles to be seen at retailers such as Topshop.

Keep it modern with dark jeans or leather to avoid looking like Paddington Bear.

If the raincoat fad is not to your liking, Zara is constantly dropping an assortment of thick woollen coats for all your wintery needs.

Another sound investment is a durable pair of leather boots to see that you avoid your toes turning an unflattering shade of purple when the cold kicks in.

For a cheaper option, head into chain stores Sportsgirl or Country Road and ask for something with a bit of a heel to ensure they are sturdy and flattering.

If you’re looking to splurge, the Acne “pistol” boot is still going strong in a few different colors for a luxe boot that will last you for years to come.

The most important winter tip? Layers, duh! Pile your basics on top of each other in slightly contrasting shades to beat the winter blues.
