Friday nights are back

The National Gallery of Victoria’s (NGV) popular Friday Nights series returns this summer with fusion between the modern and traditional being a common theme throughout the event.

Each evening will feature a different electronic artist as well as a creative collaboration from platform anon of Bach x Reimagined, providing a fusion of classical and contemporary styles.

The event will also provide patrons with a chance to access the Escher X nendo | Between Two Worlds collaborative display, which combines the work of Dutch graphic artist M.C. Escher in dialogue with the work of acclaimed Japanese design studio nendo.

Performances will also be staged in the NGV’s new look Grollo Equiset Garden, which currently features its latest 2018 Architecture Commission Doubleground right through until autumn.

Designed by architect Amy Muir of MUIR Architecture, landscape architect Mark Jacques of OPENWORK and the Hugh Williamson senior curator of contemporary design and architecture at the NGV Ewan McEoin, the garden is open for the public enjoy.

“Offering access to Escher X nendo and the garden afterhours provides the unique experience of art, music and unforgettable Friday nights at the NGV this summer,” NGV director Tony Elwood AM said.

Guests can also enjoy a range of bar and dining experiences throughout the series, which will feature:

December 14 – Hoodlem (DJ Set)

December 21 – Fantastic Man (DJ Set)

December 28 – Nicole Millar (DJ Set)

January Friday Nights resident Eilish Gilligan (DJ Set), plus:

January 4 – Andy Hart

January 11 – KLP (DJ Set)

January 18 – Film School Collective

January 25 – Zuri Akoko

February Friday Nights resident, Pjenné, plus:

February 1 – Chela (DJ Set)

February 8 – Harvey Sutherland (DJ Set)

February 15 – Alice Ivy (DJ Set)

February 22 – OJ KUSH
