Frisell lights up Jazz Festival

Frisell lights up Jazz Festival Image

By Sean Car

Legendary American jazz guitarist and composer Bill Frisell and his band got the 2017 Melbourne International Jazz Festival underway in magical fashion on June 2.

Performing his Grammy-nominated project When You Wish Upon A Star at Southbank’s Melbourne Recital Centre alongside his all-star band featuring Petra Haden (vocals), Thomas Morgan (bass) and Rudy Roysten (drums), Bill’s delicate and innovative arrangements left the audience mesmerised.

Combined with the unbelievable vocal range of Petra, who has performed with the likes of Beck and Foo Fighters, Bill’s unique jazz arrangments of classic American cinema music made for a stunning mix. The audience response was so positive, the band returned for an encore...twice!

The Melbourne International Jazz Festival continues until June 11. To see what else is on offer visit www.melbournejazz.com
