NGV opening up

The National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) is creating weekly events in an attempt to encourage new visitors through the doors.

During January and February Summer Sundays have been attracting great crowds to the NGV lawn and the party atmosphere will ramp up with the launch of Friday Nights at Melbourne Now, from February 28.

NGV Director Tony Ellwood said the Friday night sessions were extremely popular last year, and were a great fit for the Melbourne Now exhibition.

“Following 2013’s sell-out Friday night sessions, the series will return to the NGV with a home-grown focus to celebrate Melbourne Now,” Mr Ellwood said.

“The Melbourne Now gallery spaces across NGV International and The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia will be activated, matching the stellar line up in the Great Hall with special ‘pop-up’ talks and performances.”

Acts will include World’s End Press (pictured), Brighter Later and Big Scary. The evenings are free but capacity is limited so make sure you get in early!
