Safety message spreads

A novel way to spread a road safety message was run at Southbank last month, when the Transport Accident Commission unveiled a 27-metre stretch of road along Southbank Boulevard.

Passers by were then challenged to walk the stretch of road, wearing a blindfold and avoiding a number of obstacles, such as pedestrians, construction workers and cyclists.

The message was that when you’re travelling at 60 kmh and look away from the road for two seconds, you are travelling blind for 27 metres.
