Students’ creative spirit

Ambition, innovation and a passionate eye towards the future marked the Holmesglen City Campus fashion program in 2018.

Students from the Southbank-based campus took the opportunity to engage with and participate in a range of industry-leading events.

A highlight of the calendar – Melbourne Fashion Week – saw five final year Bachelor of Fashion Design students (pictured) premiere their latest collections at a runway held at Melbourne Town Hall.

“The teachers allowed us the space to explore our own potential,” student Joan Rose said.

The event concluded Holmesglen’s involvement, which also included a standing fashion exhibition at Docklands.

Creativity was also a national spark during the year. Student Ella Strong represented the Melbourne East region at the WorldSkills National Championships held in Sydney. The three-day competition is a chance for students to showcase their talents and compete against their peers.

A strong community focus featured at the Southbank campus. Holmesglen’s Culture through Craft program invited the public to attend a workshop, which included renowned Melbourne identities from SisterWorks, The Handmaker’s Factory, Angela Clark Boutique Beads and artist Sohail Yamin.

Holmesglen’s Chadstone campus also hosted a special underground runway – attended by industry and the wider community.

“This is a team that’s open to new ideas and a ‘give it a go’ ethos,” Holmesglen fashion co-ordinator Julie Wright said. “A team for whom nothing is too much trouble; if it will help our students be the best they can be.”
