Sustainable Southbank

If you like living sustainably, pencil Saturday, August 19 into your diaries for a day of interesting activities at the Boyd Community Hub.

In addition to Boyd’s monthly Sustainability Group meet-up, locals are invited to the Bobbin Lace Leaf Workshop, which will take place from 12pm to 3pm.

If you’ve ever wondered how lace was made before machines were used, this workshop is your opportunity to be introduced to the rhythm and beauty of bobbin lace making (pictured).

Instructor Lindy de Wijn and other lace making women will share their skills to teach locals the basics of bobbin lace and help you create your very own lace leaf to add to an installation in the Boyd foyer or take home to enjoy! Lunch will also be provided.

Southbank’s local Sustainability Group will also meet from 11am until 2pm to work on a range of activities, including a working bee on the Boyd’s community planter boxes.

The group will discuss a range of new ideas, including a pop up garden at Boyd over summer, community composting and a zero waste education campaign.

Both activities are free but bookings are essential and can be done via eventbrite.com.au
