The party continues

You may have thought all the new year celebrations were done and dusted for another 12 months but Southbank gets a second chance to party on, with huge events planned for Chinese New Year, over the weekend February 8 to 10.

The riverfront saw thousands flock for the giant party last year and again the crowds will descend on Crown Promenade as the Riverwalk Hawker’s Bazaar reopens for an 11th year.

2013 is the year of the snake in the Chinese calendar, a year that is associated with beauty and wisdom, esoteric knowledge and spiritual discovery.

Perhaps the highlight of the bazaar is the open karaoke sessions, which offers patrons the opportunity to take the stage and belt out their favourite song in front of the expected 100,000 guests per day. Southbank Local News staff are hoping Gangnam Style is on the playlist so we get a chance to sing!

The party will conclude as all good shindigs should, with a massive fireworks display on and around the river on Saturday and Sunday night.
