Do it yourself

Do it yourself

‘Tis the season!

It’s that time of year, Spring has sprung! It’s the time of year where we all become inspired to get up, get out and “do”.

Spring is the start of wood care season and what I fully encourage people to “do” in Spring time, is use the weather conditions to their advantage and get their decks, outdoor furniture and feature panelling taken care of in time to enjoy all the outdoor festivities of summer.

I’d personally recommend using Haymes Simply Woodcare range, which has everything you could need to not only protect your timber but also make it look fantastic, at the very highest of quality.

So whether you have a timber outdoor setting that needs a makeover or you are building a new deck, the following tips will help you.

As always, preparation is key. It is important to ensure that existing timber is properly sanded and cleaned using a quality wood cleaner and that new timber has had ample time to weather before also going through this process.

Cleaning the timber removes extracts and tannins from the timber, which can affect the durability of the top coat. Once the timber has been suitably prepared and is dry, the top coat can be applied.

The Simply Woodcare range has options for exterior use with Dexpress and Uvex being the heroes of the range – water-based exterior coatings that have greater longevity and can be used for all purposes and surfaces. Uvex in particular has a great UV resistance. Application is simple with a brush or applicator.

Simply Woodcare also has a fantastic colour range to choose from that is very unique.

My last (very important) tip is to keep on top of the maintenance.

Timber requires ongoing care, but to avoid going through the whole process again and again, all you need to do is check it every year and if there are signs of wear and tear, give it a quick recoat.

Make it apart of your Spring to “do” list.
