Pet’s corner

Moving from a 10 acre block in the country to an apartment in the middle of Southbank would be a hard move for humans, but just imagine how dogs would cope with the change!

Polly and Meme, two Maltese Shih tzus don’t have to imagine, because over the summer that’s exactly the move they’ve made.

Owner Edward said the move, from just outside Wangaratta to Southbank Village, had been hard on the dogs, but they have certainly acclimatised quickly.

“While they miss running around and chasing bunnies, we at least have a small yard at our apartment, which has helped them adapt,” Edward said.

He also said they both were now more excited than ever when venturing out for a walk.

“The hardest part for them is having to give up their freedom. They have never had to be tied up before!”

Edward also said the pair had become very excited around other dogs. Polly particularly is always very interested in other dogs.

While Polly enjoys a reasonable conventional name, Edward’s wife named Meme, and he said it reflects the dog’s personality perfectly.

“It’s always about me! Me!”

The pair have been together for 12 months, when Meme was a puppy and, while Edward said for the most part they get along, like most older sisters, Polly has her moments.

“Polly tolerates her, let’s put it that way.”
