AMERICAN SONGBOOK SERIES
Sean Car

Now in its third year, Melbourne Recital Centre once again presents the highly-popular American Songbook Series to audiences of Southbank.

The highly-acclaimed series will feature a selection of six performers all of whom will be providing their own interpretations of the illustrious history of American popular song.

Following up on from her sold-out performances in 2010, Barb Jungr returns to kick-start the series with another uplifting program of contemporary American song writing that will feature everything from Bob Dylan to Paul Simon.

Also featuring is the swinging Sinatra inspired Michelle Nicolle Quartet, a debut appearance for iconic actress, author and singer Molly Ringwald, New York cabaret superstar Lady Rizo, as well as the magnificent contemporary classical and Broadway piano styles of Mary Carewe.

Motown royalty and founding member of the Supremes, Mary Wilson also stars in the highly-renowned “Stormy Weather” production showcasing the life and career of Hollywood’s first African-American music goddess, Lena Horne.

The series gets underway on June 14 and runs until July 12.
