Ashmor considers Senate

Former federal Liberal candidate for our local seat of Macnamara Kate Ashmor says she is still considering nominating for a vacant position in the Senate.

Having fallen short to Labor MP Josh Burns in the May federal election, Ms Ashmor told Southbank Local News that she was “seriously considering” a move for the position left vacant by former communications minister Mitch Fifield.

Mr Fifield has resigned from the senate after being appointed as Australia’s Ambassador Designate to the United Nations by Prime Minister Scott Morrison.

It’s also been reported that former member for the seat of Corangamite Sarah Henderson will nominate for the position.

Nominations opened on July 8 and will close on July 26. An update will be published in the August edition of Southbank Local News.
