Domain plan amended and adopted

Domain plan amended and adopted

The City of Port Phillip adopted an amended Domain Precinct masterplan on September 18 after a significant show of community concern.

Nine speakers made verbal submissions at the September 18 council meeting. The submissions expressed concerns with traffic congestion, a lack of safe cycling infrastructure and the removal of residential car parking.

The Domain Precinct refers to the area bordered by St Kilda Rd, Dorcas St and Kings Way (up to the St Kilda and Toorak roads intersection).

The president of Port Phillip Bicycle User Group Julie Clutterbuck raised concerns that cycle lanes were insufficient in the masterplan.

A resident of 88 Park Street also told the meeting those living in the building had their “lives made a nightmare” by the removal of on-street parking as part of the bike link project.

Other speakers detailed issues of traffic congestion around Kings Way.

The amendment to the motion, which was moved by councillors Bernadene Voss and Ogy Simic and adopted unanimously by Council, sought to:

Solve traffic issues at the intersection of Park and Wells streets by delivering a “fully signalised intersection”.

Advocate for ongoing community consultation on the Albert Road Reserve and surrounds, and the Park St bike link.

Optimise opportunities for short-term servicing and visitor car parking and minimise further reductions of car parking.

Consider the feasibility of a protected bike lane in the section of Park St between Kings Way and Moray St.
