Family fun Music Play

The Melbourne Recital Centre’s (MRC) annual family festival Music Play returns to Southbank with a series of big and mini concerts, workshops and free foyer fun from January 16 and 19.

The “big little” festival designed to encourage kids and families to discover music and play an instrument returns with a fun-filled line up of events that are sure to get everyone making noise!

With tickets starting from $20, Music Play also offers a range of free foyer activities including Open Stage, Song Play and face painting hosted by the multitalented artist Madame Lark.

Supported by the Betty Amsden Kids and Families program, Music Play highlights will include:

The Nutcracker & I by Alexandra Dariescu

Enter the magical story land of Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker in a gorgeous retelling brought to life with exquisite digital animations. Thursday, January 17, 10am and 12pm.

James Morrison Kids Show

James Morrison and his band introduce kids and families to wonderful jazz music and instruments in a fun-packed concert sure to get everyone swinging. Friday, January 18, 10am and 12pm.

The Bush Concert

Learn the sounds of the Australian bush through the endearing story of birds who cheer themselves up during a drought by putting on a concert. Saturday, January 19, 10am and 12pm.

The Ukulele Kids Show

Unleash your creativity through music and learn to play the ukulele with expert ukuleleist Woody Clark and his cheeky friend Hercules the Cat. Wednesday, January 16, 9am, 10.45am and 12.15pm.

The Lullaby Project

Sit back and relax to beautiful lullabies by jazz pianist and composer Nat Bartsch suitable for kids and parents. Thursday, January 17, 9am, 11am and 1pm.

The Kiddyrock Band

The five-piece indie-rock band play a fun set of bubblegum classics covering many well-loved and familiar pop songs to dance to. Friday, January 18, 9am, 11am and 1pm.

Peter & The Wolf

Follow young Peter, his grandfather and their friends the bird, duck and cat on their exciting adventures in the forest! Saturday, January 19, 9am, 11am and 1pm.
