MCEC opens the doors to the locals

In what is a unique occurrence at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC), the centre will be hosting it’s own event, Open Space, on Thursday, February 28.

As MCEC Chief Executive Peter King explained to Southbank Local News, the event is the perfect way to show the venue off to the locals, who work and live so close to the centre, but may not actually know what goes on inside.

“Engaging with the local community is a high priority for us. I’m very keen for Melburnians to really embrace MCEC as their home to learn, share, connect and be entertained,” Mr King said.

“Our business creates jobs and has enormous economic value for the state and it’s also a space that brings the Melbourne community together for concerts, meetings and exhibitions.”

Open Space will feature a presentation by Simon Hammond, a world-leading expert on brand excellence and customer engagement. Simon will also host the free public plenary session which includes an impressive panel of experts, including Mr King himself, AusBiotech COO Glenn Cross and AFL CEO Andrew Demetriou.

“We have a great line up of influential business leaders at our plenary session, and this public event is all free!” Mr King said.

To entice locals further there will also be a hawker-style food market offering tastes of MCEC’s produce and a range of its Victorian suppliers.

Mr King said in addition to these exciting activities, it’s a great chance for locals to get to know MCEC a little better.

“It’s a great opportunity to walk through MCEC, enjoy a free taste of Victoria and learn about the value MCEC brings to Melbourne through hosting business events – you’ll be surprised!” Mr King exclaimed.

“We’re really excited to show off our amazing spaces, technology, award-winning catering, architecture, as well as highlighting the Victorian producers that we use.”

Open Space is a free event.
