Movement on Clarke St

As one developer embarks on a search for a hotel operator for its new Clarke St mixed-use tower, another is putting theirs up for sale.

Developer Newcity Development Group has begun the search for an operator to manage the hotel component of its 69-storey mixed-use tower at 51-65 Clarke St.

Approved in 2016, Southbank Local News reported in June 2018 that the developer had put the project up for sale. It is now proceeding with an expressions of interest campaign for an operator to manage the 199-room hotel, according to a report in The Hotel Conversation. The project also comprises residential apartments, co-working spaces and ground floor retail.

Across the road, the troubled site at 54-56 Clarke St has once again been put on the market by developer BPM, which comes with a permit for a 25-storey tower.

The site, which was formerly home to the controversially approved 74-storey Elysium, was purchased by BPM in 2018, which later won planning approval for its project, which includes 112 apartments.

A spokesperson for BPM told Southbank Local News that its reasons for selling couldn’t be disclosed.
