MTC wins six Green Room awards

Melbourne Theatre Company (MTC) artistic director Brett Sheehy has congratulated all of the winners of the 2014 Green Room Awards.

Mr Sheehy was particularly delighted with the six awards that went to artists who appear on MTC stages.

Steve Mouzakis won best Male Actor in MTC’s widely-acclaimed production of The Cherry Orchard (pictured above) and Danny Pettingill won Best Lighting Design for Other Desert Cities. Neil Armfield took out Best Direction for The Book of Everything, which also took out Best Ensemble.

MTC received a total of 30 nominations in the 2014 Green Room Awards including 14 for its main-stage productions.

The Green Room Awards are the top accolades in Melbourne’s performing arts and recognise everything from artistic excellence to technical innovation.

According to Mr Sheehy, the awards are a way of celebrating great local productions that run all year round. The Green Room Awards “give us pause to reflect on the staggering richness and variety of work that Melburnians are able to enjoy every night of the year,” Mr Sheehy said.

Productions and companies register with the Green Room Awards Association in order to be considered for the awards and encourage the panel members to attend their performances.
