New chief for convention centre

There’s been a changing of the guard at Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) after the unveiling of new chief executive Peter King was announced late last year.

MCEC trust chairman Bob Annells made the announcement after a long and extensive search. Candidates from Australia and overseas were considered.

Mr King was the chief executive of the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW, a role in which he oversaw the Royal Easter Show.

That experience was a contributing factor in Mr King’s eventual appointment, with Mr Annells saying: “The trust had been lucky to attract an executive of Peter King’s experience and quality to the crucial chief executive role at the MCEC.”

“He brings a great insight and a tremendous track record of achievement in venue management and international marketing amongst many other attributes,” Mr Annells added.

“I’d like to congratulate Peter on his appointment and look forward to working with him and MCEC’s senior management team on further developing our multi award-winning venue,” he said.

Mr King will take over as chief executive from early February.
