On vulnerability and doubt

On vulnerability and doubt

By Sarah Bartlett

ACCA’s winter season exhibition returns to Southbank in June and will feature the works of many Australian and international artists to captivate your interest.

ACCA presents On Vulnerability and Doubt, which will explore questions of modesty and desire, as well as awkwardness and love, through diverse artistic mediums such as painting, sculpture, printmaking and video.

ACCA artistic director Max Delany said that the exhibit would look into the intricacies that come with an artist displaying themselves and their work to the public.

“This ranges from the acclaimed shrouded figures of poverty in Andrea Büttner’s woodcuts to the delicious sense of irreverence and the grotesque paintings and animations of Tala Madani, alongside Cherine Fahd’s photographic depictions of personal fears in public spaces,” Mr Delany said.

The exhibit this year is featuring new commissions together with noteworthy existing projects. The exhibit explores role of Doubting Thomas and the art will also engage with the roles of humour, “the minor” and “otherwise” in relation to figures of authority.

On Vulnerability and Doubt is curated by Max Delany and will feature the works of Australian and international artists including Andrea Büttner, Cherine Fahd, Brent Harris, Tala Madani, Lisa Marrinon, Archie Moore, Charlie Sofo and Ambera Wellmann.

ACCA’s winter season each year has a unique conceptual and stylistic focus. This year the exhibit is developed by ACCA’s curatorial team, and by guest curators, to focus on the new developments and trends in contemporary art from around the world.

On Vulnerability and Doubt will run from June 29 until September 1 at ACCA.
