Rotary celebrates partnerships

The Southbank Rotary Club held its annual Community Service Awards during October, with a lavish celebration in the Palladium room at Crown.

The awards, now in their third year, celebrated relationships between non-for-profit organisations and the corporate companies that support them.

The winner of the overall first prize was Hanover, a community agency for people experiencing housing crisis or homelessness. Their corporate partner is Connect East, the operators of EastLink.

8 category winners and 7 runners-up organisations shared in the $30,000 cash prizes and $100,000 worth of pro bono professional services donated for the evening.

The Community Service Awards co-chairman, Philip Archer said these awards were a fantastic opportunity to highlight inspiring charity work and the corporate support they receive.

“Through the course of the event’s three years we have heard so many stories of support and kindness, ranging from providing a venue free-of-charge for meetings and performances as in the case of Federation Square and the Choir of Hope and Inspiration, through to ISPT Super Property supporting SecondBite with a full-scale fundraising campaign and a weekly volunteer program over five years,” Mr Archer said.

“As members of the corporate community, we have a social responsibility to give back to those around us, and the Community Service Awards have provided us with an avenue through which we can celebrate the many and varied ways this can be achieved,” he added.

“Working in the corporate world, we have the power to make a difference and these awards really showcase how local businesses can get behind a non-for-profit organisation for the good of the community.”
