Seniors celebrate in Southbank

Southbank will host a number of events as part of this year’s Victorian Seniors’ Festival along with a week of free travel on all public transport from October 6 to 13.

Those with a seniors Myki card can travel for free on all Melbourne trains, trams and buses, as well as regional trains, coaches and buses.

Minister for Disability, Ageing and Carers Luke Donnellan announced the free travel week for the one million-plus Victorian Seniors Card holders.

“We’re excited to provide a free week of travel to senior Victorians just in time for the 37th Victorian Seniors Festival – our chance to give something back to older Victorians who contribute so much to this state,” Mr Donnellan said.

“The festival is a key part of our support for seniors’ health and wellbeing, and we want all older Victorians to get involved and enjoy themselves with family and friends.”

This year’s festival theme is Get into it! and it encourages older Victorians to get involved in the more than 2500 events and activities taking place across the state.

Local activities in Southbank include:

Eureka Skydeck: Seniors can experience this unique attraction for a discounted rate, with a ticket including a hot drink that you can enjoy while having a stroll through the sky.

Plunge into spring: This free event will be an opportunity for seniors to get up to date research information about aquatic exercise for strengthening, cardiovascular fitness and general wellbeing, with some practical tips on how to start. There will also be a discussion about how to keep moving and motivated in spring, how to set yourself up for success and how to adjust your exercises. Get all the facts you need to stay active on October 14 at the Boyd Community Hub at 5.30pm
