Summer market fun

Locals can look forward to a fully-packed season of festive and summer shopping and events at the South Melbourne Market.

On top of a full program of events for the festive season, the popular South Melbourne Night Market will celebrate its 10th birthday in 2018 between January 4 and February 22.

For a decade, the South Melbourne Night Market has been attracting locals and tourists from interstate and abroad with its street festival vibes, delicious foods, musical entertainment and activities.

To celebrate the milestone, City of Port Phillip Mayor Bernadene Voss said locals could expect the usual world-class offerings from restaurants, bars, food trucks, carts and much more.

“From humble beginnings, the South Melbourne Night Market has grown into a must-do Melbourne event,” Cr Voss said.

“Dinner and drinks, shopping and music under the stars – it’s a much-loved combination that the market is looking forward to showcasing again on this milestone anniversary.”

Locals can enjoy the balmy summer nights and holiday vibes with a range of mouth-watering foods, delicious beverages and sweet treats.

A variety of stallholders offering unique wares such as handmade accessories, clothing, homewares, artisan goods, art and collectibles will also open to shoppers, while the musical line-up will offer something different every week.

As for the festive season, South Melbourne Market will open for extended shopping for five days straight in the lead up to Christmas Day, to allow more time to locals rushing for last minute Christmas foods and gifts.

For Christmas functions, locals can find everything they need at the market from seafood, turkeys, hams and geese to fresh local produce, sweets, cheeses and condiments.

There will also be a range of great gift ideas, as well as gift vouchers, carols and festive tunes on offer, while Santa and his elf will also make and appearance between December 20 and 23.

If you shop at South Melbourne Market this Christmas, you’ll be continuing a 150 year tradition, supporting over 140 small businesses and giving back to the local economy and local producers.
