The bridge with no name

The Yarra will acquire yet another bridge after Planning Minister Matthew Guy announced the new bridge – to connect Northwharf and Docklands.

Mr Guy called the bridge “The final piece of the jigsaw” after he acted to amend the Melbourne Planning Scheme, making sure the bridge could be delivered by the predicted 2013 date of completion.

The Minister is calling for the general public to come forward with ideas of a name, saying: “I am delighted to announce the final stage of the Northbank project can now commence and invite Victorians to submit ideas to name the distinctive bridge that builds on Melbourne’s revitalised waterfront precinct.”

As you can see from the picture the bridge is a uniquely designed, in a way that is supposed to appear as though it is hovering above the water. Either way it will be a spectacular view along either by foot or bike.

“Once completed this addition to Melbourne’s Yarra will provide a continuous open space along the riverfront for recreational purposes, encourage walking and cycling and contribute to the quality of the public space,” Mr Guy said.

“The bridge will complete a vital link between central city, Docklands and Southbank, improving pedestrian and cycling access along the northern bank of the Yarra River,” he added.
