The City of Melbourne has announced its plans for this year’s New Years Eve celebrations and there are set to be great opportunities in and around Southbank to bring in 2013.

Despite police having safety concerns about the large number of people around the Princess Bridge and Federation Square (just like in this picture of last year’s celebrations) the family fireworks at Yarra Park at 9.30pm will go ahead.

At midnight the whole city is set to come alight and the show has been designed to ensure if you have a clear view of the city skyline then you will have a sensational display to watch.

City of Melbourne CEO Kathy Alexander said there will be a new format enjoyed by all this year.

“The city has become a major destination for New Year’s Eve with people coming from far and wide to enjoy the atmosphere. The decision to change the format has given us a great opportunity to extend the festivities across the city so we can all share in the excitement on the night,” Ms Alexander said. •
