Construction giant Multiplex has been officially announced as the builder for the highly anticipated STH BNK by Beulah project, with what will be the tallest skyscraper in the Southern Hemisphere.

The $2 billion mixed tower at 60 Southbank Blvd will be Australia’s first five-minute vertical city including two twisting towers when it’s completed in 2029.

The announcement of Multiplex – whose notable Melbourne projects include Australia 108, Collins Arch, 80 Collins St, and Federation Square – follows an extensive review of globally competent and respected construction companies around the world.

“We’re thrilled to be named the preferred builder for this unrivalled skyscraper, which is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated projects to be undertaken in Melbourne’s CBD,” Multiplex’s regional managing director Ross Snowball said.

“We look forward to working with Beulah to bring their vision for Australia’s tallest tower to life.”

A five-year build is expected with construction set to start later this year or early 2024.

Soaring 365 metres high, the towers will be home to a world-class retail precinct with an impressive selection of shops, a comprehensive wellness precinct, a childcare centre, and a Four Seasons Hotel.

It will also house an innovative cultural centre in partnership with Centre Pompidou, commercial office space, a diverse residential offering, and numerous pocket parks as well as the world’s tallest vertical garden.

Beulah managing director Jiaheng Chan said Multiplex was chosen due to its wealth of global experience, including delivering some of Australia’s most significant and iconic projects, “many of which push the boundaries in terms of engineering and design.”

“Following an extensive review period, we believe them to be the most experienced to be our builder partner for such an iconic project and look forward to a long-term partnership that will see STH BNK By Beulah come to life,” he said.

“Additionally, STH BNK By Beulah has a strong emphasis on sustainability and biophilia and Multiplex’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint was also taken into consideration; Multiplex is committed to net zero carbon buildings and sites by 2030 and a net zero carbon value chain by 2050.”

While works are yet to start, STH BNK by Beulah has taken out the title as one of Australia’s fastest-selling projects with apartment sales ranging from $30 million to $38 million.

Lord Mayor Sally Capp said, “We are really so pleased for Beulah that they are ever closer to achieving this momentous project that we know is going to deliver on-going jobs, deliver stimulus whilst it’s being built and really leave a lasting legacy in our city.” •
