The City of Port Phillip has endorsed the name Kirrip Park as the title of its new community park currently under construction on Ferrars St in Montague.
Councillors unanimously approved the progression of the proposed name at its meeting on April 18, as the official name for the area that is currently referred to as Montague Community Park to the community consultation stage.
Kirrip, meaning friend or mate in the Boon Wurrung language, was submitted to council by the Boon Wurrung Foundation as part of the council’s campaign for the community to submit suggested names for the park.
