Firefighters have extinguished a small fire that broke out within a fan/plant room at the Melbourne Theatre Company (MTC) on December 14.

Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) were called to the Sturt St building just after 8.30am following reports of a fire, which was brought under control within 15 minutes.

“Firefighters arrived within five minutes to find a fire in one room of the premises,” an FRV statement said.

“The crew forced entry to the room and worked quickly to extinguish the fire. The scene was declared under control at 8.46am.”

The MTC said there was no reported injuries and the fire was contained to a fan/plant room, which was minorly affected.

The incident is under investigation, but the MTC said the blaze had not impacted the theatre nor its scheduled performances.
