You only have to look around Southbank to understand its residential population is growing quickly and the Australian Bureau of Statistics released some new findings to confirm that fact last month.
The statistics show our population grew by 2100 between July 2012 and June 2013, putting our overall population figure at 15,600.
The increase of 15.2 per cent makes Southbank the fifth fastest growing suburb in Victoria.
Our neighbours are growing quickly too, with Docklands listed as fourth fastest and Melbourne’s CBD as the fastest. New towers are being built all the time to accommodate for this growth. Central Equity’s “The Wrap” is almost complete, while Schiavello’s “Prima Pearl” is getting closer.
Southbank also recorded the second highest growth in population density over the 12-month period, up by 670 people per square metre. •
