Clarke St, located underneath the busy Westgate Freeway was named after Dr Edward Clarke.
Dr Clarke migrated to Hobart in 1854 on the City of Hobart after graduating from the University of Giessen.
He moved to Emerald Hill by 1873, living on the corner of Clarendon St and Albert Rd and practising in Montague St until his death in 1897.
