Victoria’s Disability Sport and Recreation Festival cancelled
This year’s Victoria’s Disability Sport and Recreation (DSR) Festival has been cancelled due to safety concerns.
A spokesperson from DSR said that it was “with deep regret that we announce the cancellation of the 2024 DSR Festival” adding that unexpected delays in construction at the festival site have made it impossible to guarantee a safe, accessible and enjoyable experience for everyone.
The festival, originally scheduled for Friday, December 6 along Crown Riverwalk in Southbank, was celebrating its 15th year, and the organisers are devastated to have been forced to pull the pin.
“Despite our efforts to explore alternatives the site conditions have left us with no other option but to make this difficult decision,” the spokesperson said.
“We understand this news will be disappointing and sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.”
This year’s festival was set to have three engaging activity zones presented by some 25 different exhibitors, giving festival goers the chance to try inclusive sports like cricket and tennis, and to learn about other recreational opportunities.
“For the last 60 years, we’ve proudly supported and encouraged Victorians with disability to get active,” DSR CEO Liz Tesone said.
“The Victorian Sport and Recreation Festival is one of our most exciting calendar events of the year.”
While this year’s cancellation is a setback, DSR remains committed to delivering an even bigger and better festival in 2025. •
