Your voice matters: Southbank3006

By Jannine Pattison - Vice President, Southbank3006

Welcome to 2023 and a big happy first birthday to Southbank3006. What a year it has been for Southbankers.

Southbank3006 was born from a need for greater community connection and a yearning from residents wanting to become more involved with the decisions that are made on local matters.

We were delighted that Southbank3006 was quickly embraced by the community and fast became the largest, highly engaged individual resident group in the area and continues to grow every day.

During the past 12 months we have raised with the City of Melbourne and state government the need for improved green space, dog parks and better recreational facilities in Southbank.

We have posed the question, “what does the economy of the future look like in Southbank?” We have opened the conversation around introducing low-traffic neighbourhoods to improve pedestrian and road safety, and we were privileged to have hosted two Meet the Candidates events for the 2022 federal and state elections, with great attendance numbers.

We invited the community to information sessions with the head of The Melbourne Arts Precinct Transformation, the Department of Transport, Victoria Police, and in December we celebrated together with the inaugural Southbank, A Very Merry Friend-Mas, with attendees exceeding our wildest expectations! The highlights of which were no doubt the Southbank3006 dog parade and the very special visit from Santa! This event will now be a permanent fixture in the Southbank3006 calendar.

So, after our first-year advocating for community needs and hosting numerous events, we are well rested and hard at work once again planning the 2023 schedule.

February 26 will see us back with the Victorian Police running a session on bike security and scooter safety. We invite everyone to come along and hear from the crime prevention division who will be offering bike registration and engraving services.

This year will be jam packed with activities, so make sure you join us as an official member to keep updated on all the upcoming events

Southbank, thank you for trusting us to be your voice on the matters that matter. •
