UK electronic music producer Clark and Australian choreographer Melanie Lane continue their long-time artistic partnership with their upcoming contemporary dance performance MOUNTAIN.

On Saturday, August 24, the pair will fire up the Melbourne Recital Centre with their unique blend of electronic music, contemporary dance and orchestral music.

Clark, who released his 11th album Cave Dog last December, will perform live alongside the Canberra Symphony Orchestra Chamber Ensemble.

A cast of four dancers will perform Lane’s choreography, decked out in costumes by renowned Australian fashion designer Akira Isogawa. The performance will be an exploration of the dangers of humankind’s ambition to continuously break new ground as well as the inextricable connection between creation and destruction.

Through their composition and choreography, Clark and Lane aim to portray human evolution and progress as a cycle of exhilarating climbs followed by turbulent descents.

The collaborators have worked together for almost 10 years, since Lane choreographed a series of live shows for Clark’s international tour in 2015.

MOUNTAIN is part of Now or Never, Melbourne’s festival of art, technology and ideas which launched last year.

The festival’s theme this year is “look through the image”, with a focus on hidden symbolism and innovative, large-scale works.

The program is expected to attract more than 200,000 attendees to the city.

Now or Never runs from August 22 to 31. •
