Family Art Day at ACCA: art and connection for young creatives
On Saturday, November 9, the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art (ACCA) opens its doors for Family Art Day from 11am to 2pm. The activity is designed to engage children and families in hands-on artmaking.
This Family Art Day has been inspired by Tennant Creek Brio: Juparnta Ngattu Minjinypa Iconocrisis, ACCA’s current exhibition showcasing the work of Tennant Creek Brio, an artist collective from Warumungu Country in the Northern Territory.
The exhibition offers a thought-provoking blend of First Nations cultural traditions, industrial materials, and global art influences, confronting themes of identity, history, and resilience.
Using reclaimed materials like oil barrels and mining maps, Tennant Creek Brio’s pieces address the enduring impacts of colonialism while highlighting the artists’ bold, cross-cultural identities.
During Family Art Day, children aged from three to 10 years will be guided by ACCA educators to create their own artworks and to collaborate on a larger group piece.
This creative program allows participants to explore themes from the exhibition in a relaxed, family-friendly setting.
Family Art Day will take place in ACCA’s main gallery and is free, though advance registration is recommended. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
ACCA is located at 111 Sturt Street, Southbank. More information on www.acca.melbourne •
