The party has started at La Camera to celebrate 25 years at Southgate, with the favourite riverside restaurant marking the milestone with a bumper year of events and festivities.

2024 also ushers in 20 years for the restaurant’s Southbank Community Nights. Locals can expect the usual line-up of events, including Opera Night, Jazz and Shiraz, Booze and Blues and Cooking Class, but with an extra “special” treat to honour the birthday.

La Camera’s Paul Scidone told Southbank News to stay tuned for more surprises, not only to celebrate 25 years at Southgate but more than 40 years in Melbourne.

“We have our usual line-up of events; we are just making it a little bit more special. For example, as part of our Jazz and Shiraz night Cliff Fry will be on the sax and Rob Severini, who is a singer, songwriter, and director, who will be doing the vocals,” Mr Scidone said.

“We asked more than 20,000 of our followers to submit their favourite dishes from the past 25 years and we will be putting them on the menu, we are getting old staff back together and we are currently running Giro De Talia specials with regional dishes following the where the race will travel throughout Italy.”

“It was looking pretty doubtful that we would be here [following COVID-19 lockdowns], I think it’s an amazing achievement. Seventy per cent of our current staff have remained since those days.”

“A lot is owed to them for standing by us and showing their loyalty.” •
