MSO brings Harry Potter magic to South Wharf

The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra will bring the magic of Hogwarts to South Wharf next year with Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban in Concert at The Plenary.

Running from September 17 to 19, 2027, the concert will see the MSO perform John Williams’ celebrated score live while the third film in the Harry Potter series is projected on the big screen.

The score, which earned Williams an Oscar nomination, is among the most beloved in the franchise, bringing new musical depth to Harry, Ron and Hermione’s third year at Hogwarts.

The film follows the trio as they encounter escaped prisoner Sirius Black, learn to handle a Hippogriff, face shape-shifting Boggarts and confront the terrifying Dementors, while Harry uncovers more about his past and his connection to Sirius.

The concert forms part of the official Harry Potter Film Concert Series, created by Warner Bros. Discovery Global Experiences and CineConcerts. Since its world premiere in 2016, the series has been seen by more than 4.5 million fans worldwide and is scheduled to include more than 3000 performances across 48 countries.

CineConcerts president and producer/conductor Justin Freer said the film series remained “a once-in-a-lifetime cultural phenomenon”.

“As we celebrate 25 years since audiences first discovered Hogwarts on the big screen, there is no better way to honour that legacy than experiencing this music performed live by a symphony orchestra,” he said.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban in Concert will be performed at The Plenary, Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, on Friday, September 17 and Saturday, September 18 at 7pm, and Sunday, September 19 at 1pm.

Tickets go on sale at 10am on Tuesday, June 16, 2026 via mso.com.au.
