Safer Together community event

Safer Together community event
Snr Sgt Alex OToole

On Wednesday, June 18, MICM building management hosted their first Safer Together community event for the residents of 81 City Rd, Southbank.

The event brought together a number of presenters with a crime prevention and crime reporting theme.

President of Neighbourhood Watch’s Southbank chapter Chris Milner spoke about connecting the community and watching out for each other.

Chelsea from Crimestoppers spoke about encouraging residents to prevent crime and how to confidentially share what they know about unsolved crime or suspicious activity.

Leading Senior Constables Aaron Heriot and Janie Lambert, Crime Prevention Officers from Victoria Police, educated residents about problem solving approaches to crime reduction and strategies to implement them – such as Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED).

I was in attendance as the local police contact and answered questions relating specifically to the Southbank Police service area.

The event took place after hours and was advertised and arranged by MICM general manager, building manager Raj Kakarla and MICM CEO Sally Purcel.

The event was a great opportunity for residents to seek solutions for crime issues being experienced in their building and their suburb.

Hopefully this will be the first of many of these educational sessions for Southbank residents.
