Southbank locals got an early glimpse of jungle adventure when the newly announced cast of Tarzan – The Stage Musical gathered at South Wharf for a photo alongside the historic Polly Woodside ship.
The striking backdrop set the scene for a production that promises to sweep audiences away with its energy and heart.
Leading the new Australian staging of the Disney classic is Joshua Russell (Moulin Rouge! The Musical) in the iconic role of Tarzan. Emily Robinson, a Victorian College of the Arts graduate, makes her principal debut as Jane Porter, bringing fresh talent to the production.
The principal cast also features Sarah Murr (Hadestown, & Juliet) as Kala, Joti Van Carlos Gore (Disney’s Frozen) as Kerchak, Trent Owers (Titanique) as Terk, Drew Holmes (Kinky Boots) as Professor Porter, and Nick Eynaud (Sweeney Todd) as Clayton.
Ensemble and aerialists include Simon Fairweather (Sister Act The Musical), Brittany Ford (Moulin Rouge! The Musical), and Josephine Lopes (West Side Story), supported by an expanded cast of talented performers ready to bring the jungle to life.
Based on Disney’s 1999 animated film, Tarzan – The Stage Musical features music and lyrics by Phil Collins, including beloved hits like Strangers Like Me, Son of Man, and You’ll Be In My Heart.
With a book by Tony Award-winning playwright David Henry Hwang, the story explores identity, love, and the universal quest for connection.
This new production comes from the Green-Room Award-winning James Terry Collective, following their success with Kinky Boots and The Boys in the Band.
Director Alister Smith heads an accomplished creative team including Claire Healy (Musical Director), Michael Ralph (Choreographer), and a suite of award-winning designers.
