Moomba wows St Kilda Rd crowds
Southbank News | 18th March, 2014
Nearly 100,000 people lined St Kilda Rd during the Labour Day long weekend for the time-honoured Moomba parade.
The parade highlighted Melbourne’s multiculturalism and featured floats and performers of all kinds.
The float containing Moomba King and Queen, Bert Newton and Lucy Durack (pictured bottom left), was among the most popular.
Lord Mayor Robert Doyle hailed the parade and entire festival a resounding success.
“A hugely successful Moomba parade. Nearly 100,000 people in our streets, 2000 performers and over one million people over the weekend enjoyed Moomba,” Cr Doyle said.
