Southbank man charged over string of bin fires

A Southbank man has been charged following a police investigation into a series of deliberately lit bin fires across the area in recent weeks.
Melbourne Crime Investigation Unit detectives allege up to 10 bins were set alight in Southbank between July 2 and August 11.
Police said no properties were damaged in the fires and no-one was injured.
A 32-year-old Southbank man has now been charged with 10 counts of criminal damage by fire, as well as attempting to commit criminal damage by fire.
He has been bailed to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on February 3, 2027.
The charges follow an investigation by detectives into the repeated fires across the CBD and Southbank area.
