Unregistered and unlicenced rider recording ride through Melbourne
Police say they expect to charge an unlicensed 17-year-old who they believe was livestreaming his ride through Melbourne this week on an unregistered electric motorbike.
The bike first came to police attention on City Rd, Southbank, at about 4pm on Monday, June 8, when it was spotted in heavy traffic without a registration plate, police said.
A short time later the rider had ridden up behind members of the Public Order Response Team on Clarendon St near the Batman Park tram stop, and they had got out of their car to speak to him.
The rider failed to get off the bike after multiple requests, police said, and tried to ride off before he was grabbed by the officers.
They said the teenager had been arrested until his identity could be confirmed and had been interviewed in relation to failing to stop on police direction, using an unregistered motor vehicle, unlicenced, careless driving and resisting arrest.
The electric motorbike, a Stark Future Supermoto 80 believed to be worth around $25,000, was impounded for 30 days at a cost of $999.52.
Police also seized a helmet camera which was believed to be recording at the time, they said, and the bikes’ speed control unit.
The rider, who is from the Stonnington area, is expected to be charged on summons, they said.
