Southbank3006 to host jam-packed community Christmas party

By Jemma van Zaanen

With Christmas just around the corner, community group Southbank3006 will bring celebrations to Southbank with its festive event this month.

As part of the City of Melbourne’s 2022 Christmas Collective Program, friends and family are welcome to attend the celebration on December 10 at Boyd Community Hub from 11am – 3pm.

Music lovers can enjoy live Christmas music from Melbourne’s own Glee Club, while animal lovers can watch the inaugural Southbank dog parade.

Locals can register their dog to be part of  the doggy parade, with prizes such as best festive dressed and best lookalike to their owner up for grabs.

Other festive highlights of the event to look forward to are salsa dancing, face painting, street performers, giant bubbles, a roving magician, and an elf on roller-skates.

Southbank3006 vice-president Jannine Pattison believed the event would build a stronger connection among residents and hoped the celebration would become an annual event for Southbank.

“We are honoured that Lord Mayor Sally Capp will be in attendance and will be giving a public address,” Ms Pattison said.

“I am really looking forward to watching the community come together and enjoy a day of music, food, fun, and Santa.”

Attendees are welcome to bring a picnic or enjoy food from some of the many vendors at the event, such as Taco Station and House of Cards Espresso.

The local Southbank Lions Club will be hosting a sausage sizzle while Mr Cool Whip will be serving up some ice-cream favourites.

The Victoria Police Motorcycle Branch will also be stopping by and there will be an opportunity to snap some festive photos.

Word on the street is the man in the red suit will be making a very special appearance at the event as well! •
