Substation explosion
Sean Car | 15th May, 2012
You may have felt a small tremor last month after an underground substation electrical cable exploded in Southbank on May 1.
Power was cut to more than 300 apartments serviced by the cable and a number of windows and cars in the immediate area were damaged.
Spokesperson from CityPower Drew Douglas said thankfully the incident was not too severe and the cause was the failure of the cable.
“It blew out a few windows, which we obviously replaced, but thankfully it was nothing too major,” Mr Douglas said, adding: “It was maintained within the fence-line of the building.”
